The UP Center (Uniting Pride)
The UP Center (Uniting Pride) respects the diversity of all people and promotes the wellbeing of the community through advocacy, education, and outreach in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and ally community in Champaign County. The UP Center offers a broad mix of programs and services aimed at acceptance, inclusion, and social equality. Opportunities for EDUC 201 students includes communication and outreach, youth program and services, and grant writing.
Communication and outreach - Duties may include reaching out to businesses in order to publicize and grow corporate sponsorships, develop social media posts and blogs, and create monthly newsletter publications. This opportunity should appeal to EDUC 201 students who are interested in leadership, creativity, public service communication, program development, social policy, social justice, and fundraising.
Youth program and services - Students who intern will help plan activities that pertain to LGBTQ youth, their safety, education, and overall well-being. This opportunity should appeal to EDUC 201 students interested in curriculum planning, program development, bullying, and social issues.
Grant writing - Students who intern will assist in researching grant opportunities, writing grant proposals (with the supervision of the Grant Committee Chair), and attending Grant Committee Meetings. This opportunity should appeal to EDUC 201 students interested in grant writing, educational funding, social justice programming, and LGBTQ rights.
IMPORTANT: Student will have to resume and participate in a short interview and undergo a background check. 3-4 hours per week is a minimum.
